Head of Iran-European Parliament Friendship Group says the US Senate and Zionist lobby compelled the European Parliament (EP) to cancel its planned trip to Iran. Kazem Jalili in a Monday interview said “With regard to this trip, the US Senate wrote a letter to the EP asking them why they intended to travel to Iran under the existing circumstances.” The senior member of Iran Majlis [parliament] pointed out that immediately after the Senate letter, the Zionists officials took a similar position by calling on the EU to cancel the trip. An EP delegation, headed by Tarja Cronberg, the chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iran, was scheduled to make a six-day visit to Islamic Republic and meet with the EP Friendship Group of Iran Majlis. But on Friday, EP officials asked for permission to meet two Iranian nationals jailed on charges of breaching national security -- a request Tehran ruled out as interference in the country’s internal affairs. Jalali noted that prior to the scheduled visit, the Iranian officials and media had adopted all precautionary measures to prevent any problem during the EP officials’ visit, but the European delegation made an eleventh-hour decision by setting the precondition which led to the cancellation of the trip. The Iranian legislator added such behavior is indicative of Europe’s “dishonesty” and shows that they are not trustworthy,.
