Ihab Al-Ghussain, a spokesman for the government, said in a written statement on Wednesday that international institutions and human rights groups should assume their responsibilities to protect civilians in face of such an “oppressive aggression”. He charged that Israeli rulers were trying to gain election victories at the expense of Palestinian blood. Ghussain said that the military escalation that followed the Qatari Emir’s visit to Gaza reflects attempts to foil the successful results of that visit. For its part, Hamas movement said in another statement on Wednesday that the Israeli military attacks that killed six Palestinians and wounded many others came at the direct orders of the Israeli premier following his open threats against Gaza a couple of days earlier. Benjamin Netanyahu is trying to secure more votes before the general elections and is trying to foil the Palestinian people’s joy on the eve of Eidul Adha, Hamas said.
