Abdul Sattar Qassem, a professor of political science at An-Najah National University in Nablus, said that the preliminary results of the local elections in the occupied West Bank is a "failure" to the Fatah movement the leadership of which was not accepted by the Palestinian people. The most important result of the local elections was the weak participation of the Palestinian citizens in the electoral process which indicates their indifference and lack of confidence towards Palestinian politicians and administrators who are only interested in their personal interests, Qassem told Quds Press. This election confirms Fatah movement failure that represents a clear lesson that the Palestinians in the West Bank do not want it for social and political, national and administrative reasons, he added, saying that the Palestinian people was not satisfied by Fatah performance due to its tyrannical practices. The Palestinian academic scoffed at Fatah's allegations as made "sweeping victory" in the municipal and rural elections in the occupied West Bank, stressing that the movement won at some sites only and lost many other sites. He stated that the Palestinian people's message sent through the election results was that " this people want to be free from the political, social and national slavery, and want to pass to a new phase that could be signs of Palestinian spring," pointing out to Fath monopoly on power and its institutions, where 83 % of civil servants are Fath supporters, as well as 97 % of the elements of the security services are of the movement. In the same context, he warned against the tribal dimension in the Palestinian community at the expense of the national dimension, which was reinforced by the local elections, saying "these Fatah elections were not free and reinforced the tribal dimension". Meanwhile,Taher al-Nunu, spokesman for the Palestinian government, confirmed that the results of the local elections in the West Bank reflected the people’s adjournment from Fatah movement. The results of the local elections in the West Bank reflected something important, I wish Fatah could comprehend it clearly. The masses have adjourned from the movement and that its leadership failed in everything and it reinforced the division between Gaza and West Bank, he said in a press release on Facebook. He stressed that the wise way is to restore the unity of our people, and to agree upon a national and united consensus program to confront the Israeli real enemy to our people and not the partner or ally as some officials think in the Fatah movement.
