Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the enemies of the Middle Eastern countries seek to prolong their presence in the region by stirring insecurity in the Persian Gulf and sowing discord among regional states.he made the remarks at a press conference on the sidelines of the first summit of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) group in Kuwait City on Wednesday. Ahmadinejad reiterated the need for strengthening relations among regional countries, adding that “insecurity in the Persian Gulf is detrimental to all regional states.” In response to a question about Iran’s relations with the Persian Gulf Arab countries, specially Saudi Arabia, Ahmadinejad said the Islamic Republic wants to ”strengthen friendships” with all of the countries in the region. He noted: “The Islamic Republic is friendly to all nations and wants to see the dignity, progress, and security of all its brothers.” He went on to say that foreign navies, which are present in the Persian Gulf on the pretext of bringing security to the region, only cause regional insecurity, while “most of the Persian Gulf countries, including Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman, have had friendly relations in the course of history.” The Iranian president said: “Iran has been a provider of security for the Persian Gulf and neighboring countries for many years.”
