Director of Al-Haq human rights group Sha'wan Jabbarin said the Palestinian security apparatuses in the West Bank questioned Hamas detainees during its recent arrest campaign about their intentions to participate in the coming municipal elections. According to testimonies by Palestinians arrested in the last campaign, PA security interrogators asked the detainees about their political orientations, the blocs they want to support and their electoral activities. Jabbarin said what happened with these detainees further vindicated that the next municipal elections would not go according to legal procedures and that the PA security apparatuses want to intervene in the elections. He pointed out that his organizations sent letters to the election commission and the ministry of interior in Ramallah city asking for clarifications about these violations.
