The array of two currents in Syrian crisis has reached its peak. One is the western front, US-dependent Arab regimes plus Turkey trying their best to overthrow the Syrian government. The second current comprises of the countries supporting the Syrian government each of which supports the Syrian government against the western front for certain objectives and incentives. The 18 month efforts of the US, its western allies and regional surrogates for overthrowing the Syrian government have been in vain due to the political and social base of Syrian government and the insistence of supporters of Syrian government on their stances against the pressures of the dependent Arab regimes. With the start of Islamic awakening in the Middle East and the collapse of a number of west-dependent governments, the balance of power tilted to the favor of the resistance front and to the detriment of western front and its Arab allies. The US and the Arab reactionary regimes believe that overthrow of Bashar Assad government in Syria would change balance of power for the benefit of the west-oriented front. For this reason, the dispatch of armed groups to Syria and making the country insecure are placed on the agenda. The US and the European Union with the support of Arab governments like Saudi Arabia and Qatar plus Turkey have adopted hostile policies under the disguise of defense of human rights and democracy. Enforcement of economic sanctions, political pressures and efforts for military intervention in Syria have been some of their measures for overthrowing the Syrian government during the past 18 months. The farcical behavior of countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar and the double standard policy of western powers towards the events of Syria remind Stephen Krasner's book," Sovereignty: Organized Hypocrisy". Krasner writes: “In the international circles, governments show themselves to be vowed to common human values, but in practice they prefer national interests to those values. They speak of idealism but in practice they take their interests into consideration. The national interests of those countries and many other countries do not comprise the ideals and wishes of all groups of the society. In other words, the national interests are not the interests of all nations but are the interests of certain groups and parties.” The US and its allies are not facing Syria alone; the opposition of Russia and China at the UN Security Council with the creation of no-fly zone hindered the way for military interference and waging war in Syria. The western and Arab front with the help of Turkey tries to make the country insecure to pave the way for overthrowing the Syrian government. Most of the armed groups are hired puppets who have been taken from other countries to Turkey and Jordan and after training they are dispatched to Syria. The armed rebels enjoy the direct military and information support of Turkey, the US and other opponents of Syria especially Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Actually those who have taken weapons against the Syrian government have embarked on killing people in Syria on behalf of US and its allies. The statement of the UN chief that “the Syrian crisis has turned into an indirect war in which regional and international players are competing with each other” indicates that the Syrian crisis can be considered a proxy war in the Middle East. The importance of the crisis can be understood from the stance of Russian foreign minister after the explosion at Syria's National Security Headquarters, “We are not sure of the outcome of the Syrian crisis, but what is certain is that it will lead to major changes in the world and will determine whether it will rely on the UN charter or on bullying.” Russians know well that preservation of the Syrian government is the last option which not only guarantees their influence in the Middle East but it gives them more maneuver power against the US. With the new arrival of Vladimir Putin in Kremlin, the US policies turn from interaction during the Medvedev administration into aggression in some areas. In Central Asia, especially in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan the US has entered in a new competition with Russia. This means that Russia's concerns towards its surrounding area or the neighboring regions will increase. Meanwhile, in view of Russia’s growing economy and the serious need it has to investment and foreign technology for development, it is unlikely that Moscow can tolerate the expenses of entering a direct clash for Syria. Therefore the Russian government tries by using its influence in the UN Security Council and its support for the Syrian government to impede the US and its allies from obtaining their objectives in Syria. China, too, tries to stand with Russia and prevent the US domination on the Middle East. But the motive of the Islamic Republic of Iran's to support Syria is different from Russia and China to some extent. By supporting Syria, Iran is seeking to prevent the US war-mongering and domination in the Middle East and to reduce Washington's influence in the region. Yet the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the point that Syria is at the forefront of resistance against expansionism of the fake Zionist regime. By overthrowing the Syrian government and omitting this country from the anti-Israel resistance front, the US and its allies are trying to add to the numbered breaths of the fabricated Zionist regime, especially given that following the Islamic awakening and the consecutive collapse of the US-backed regimes the Zionist regime has become utterly fragile both politically and in terms of security. The US and Zionist officials have frequently referred to the point that their next target after toppling the Syrian government is the Islamic Resistance of Hezbollah in Lebanon. Defense of democracy and prevention of human rights violation in Syria are just the lies for the US long term goals in the Middle East, just like what the US does in Iraq and many countries. The Islamic awakening movement caused the US to lose a number of its closest s in stooges in the Middle East. Hosni Mubarak in Egypt, Ben Ali in Tunisia, Ali Abdullah Saleh in Yemen were among dictators who executed US polices in the region for several decades. Once it couldn’t prevent the fall of its puppet regimes in the region, the US government adopted the strategy of manipulating revolutions in the region to serve its interests. Effort for overthrowing the Syrian government under the mask of supporting democracy is done within this framework. Syria lies between the arrays of two currents. One is the US-led current which is desperately strengthening its waning power and influence in the strategic Middle East. The second current is the anti-US front which tries to support the Syrian government to prevent the access of the US and its allies to their illegal aims. In view of the political and economic expenditure that the US and its allies have spent within the past 18 months for overthrowing the Syrian government, one can say that so far they have failed and in future also they will fail with the help of the Almighty God.
