Syrian Vice President, Farouk al-Sharaa appeared on Sunday as receiving Chairman of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi, refuting by this move claims of his defections. Al-Sharaa was seen leaving his car and entering his office to receive the visiting Iranian official who set foot in Damascus on Saturday for talks with Syrian officials. Allegations over the defection of al-Sharaa have swirled since last week. The Syrian opposition has repeatedly spread news that the VP had left Damascus and went to Jordan. However, the Syrian government had also repeatedly denied the rumors, saying al-Sharaa was in his Damascus office. After the opposition’s claims, state television on August 19 quoted a statement from al-Sharaa's office saying that the VP has never thought about leaving the country or going anywhere. ON Saturday, state news agency, SANA, said that a fake email had been sent out in its name claiming that the vice president had been sacked, adding that the "information is completely wrong."
