A Russian political analyst specializing on Iran affairs said here Monday that any kind of military pressure against Iran due to its nuclear program might lead to a global crisis, comparable to World War II. Rajab Safarov told Russia`s Interfax News Agency, ” Fortunately there are few people in the world that support adopting such harsh measures, but the aftermath of their unwise proposals would be catastrophe at very wide and unpredictable dimensions.” He referred to chaotic conditions in world economy as another aftermath of imposing illogical pressure against Iran. The head of Contemporary Iran Studies Center in Moscow emphasized, ”If Iran decides to, it can block the strategic Hormuz Strait, following which the price of oil at international energy markets would rise up to US $100.” ”In that case many strong countries` economies would face serious problems and they would lose their power to compete,” he added. Safarev added, ”Iran has a powerful missile power, that can be a threat not only against the US based in Persian Gulf states, but also against US and Israeli forces in Turkey that is a NATO member, and the US Fifth Naval fleet, in addition to the entire Israeli soil and the oil carrier ships within the range of the Iranian missiles.” He said, ”It would be enough to target two oil carriers in the Persian Gulf to block the entire flow of oil through that strategic waterway for an indefinite long period.” ”For all those reasons, resorting to military force against Iran is not possible in foreseeable future,” said the Russian analyst, who added, ”Any type of direct interference in Iran, or a military attack would equal suicide for the United State, and therefore, it is very unlikely.” Safarev predicted that in worst conditions, the talks on Iran`s nuclear dossier would be pursued at the Board of Governors of the IAEA that would send it to the UN Security Council which would lead to imposing serious international economic sanctions against Iran.” He expressed certainty at the end that under the current conditions no country in the world, even the United States, is capable of resorting to military operations against Iran.
