Algerian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Rachid Harraoubia here Saturday stressed Iran`s right to pursue peaceful nuclear technology. Harraoubia made the remark in a meeting with the visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Mohammad-Reza Baqeri. Iran as a civilized country that enjoys a stable policy has the right to pursue nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, he said adding that Iran`s progress and development would benefit the entire region as well as all Muslim nations. Referring to exchange of visits between the two countries` senior officials, the Algerian head of Iran-Algeria joint commission said the two sides are determined to expand bilateral ties. Baqeri, for his part, outlined latest developments in Iran`s nuclear stances and said, ”Iran will resume nuclear fuel research which had been voluntarily suspended by the country. ”This will be based on Article 4 of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) which is among rights of the signatories including Iran.” Pointing to agreements already signed between the two countries, he called for materialization of documents and holding the third session of the joint commission. During the meeting, the two sides discussed issues related to the Islamic world as well as developments in the Middle East region. Baqeri arrived in Algiers Thursday night on a three-day visit to attend the first session of joint political committee between the two countries and hold talks with senior Algerian officials on issues of mutual interest.
