A morning daily on Tuesday urged the Iraqi nation to be on guard against attempts of the meddlers to further destabilize Iraq specially after the victory of the United Iraqi Alliance in recent parliamentary polls. ”The enemies of the Iraqi nation, whose eight decades of terrorizing of the Land of the Two Rivers had reached its climax under their stooge Saddam, should be told in plain words not to tamper with the results of the elections,” said `Kayhan International.` Noting that the official announcement of the elections results is expected this week, it said the United Iraqi Alliance ought to stand up to undue pressures from the American occupiers with the same resolve that proved its mass appeal across Iraq. It stressed that it is the people who decide the nature of the government and in Iraq`s case the mandate from the masses was clear and unambiguous. ”They voted for Islam, which means they should have a government made up of devout and dedicated persons, no matter whether the officials chosen belong to the Shi`ite Muslim majority, to the Kurdish ethnic group or to the Sunni Arab minority that forms some 15 percent of the national population,” the daily emphasized. It added that only a ”truly representative government that showcases the aspirations of the people and firmly rules out the inclusion of self-defeatist elements in its ranks such as Allawi`s secularists and the hated Ba`thists, will be able to restore dignity to Iraq by calling for the exit of all occupation forces.” Stressing that the US was unnerved by the possibility of establishment of such popular government in Iraq, the article argued, ”This is the reason for the growing number of stealth visits to the Cradle of Civilization by senior officials of the occupier countries .. in the absence of any official invitation from the elected authorities.” The sudden upsurge in terrorist attacks over the past couple of days is another indication of this gamesmanship by Washington in oil-rich Iraq, it added. In view of the plots underway, prudence warrants the Iraqi people and the victorious parties to be on guard against attempts by the meddlers to try to make a dent in the triumphant United Iraqi Alliance or play the sectarian card to further destabilize Iraq, it noted. Stressing that in the current situation the fidelity to Islam of the Iraqi Muslims was at stake, the article concluded by saying that ”Islam was never at stake and will triumph resonantly in Iraq and beyond as promised by God.”
