Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hamid-Reza Asefi, here Sunday said that Canada`s human rights resolution against Iran is a political move by making use of a domestic pretext. Speaking to reporters in this week`s briefing, he added that unfortunately the human rights issue has been turned into a tool used by the countries, while the continuation of this trend by some western circles has even reduced its efficiency. ”Besides, Canada itself is one of the major violators of human rights,” added the spokesman. He noted that the EU statement against Iran is based on their sentiment and that it has no place in the world`s current diplomatic protocol ”The diplomats should rather overcome their sentiments and act by relying upon their logic and wisdom,” he added. In response to a question about the reaction of Iranian Foreign Ministry to the humiliation of Ayatollah Sistani by Al-Jazeera Network, he said, ”Qatar`s ambassador to Tehran was summoned and briefed on Iran`s displeasure in this regard on Saturday evening. ”He was told that the measure (taken by the TV network) was not a professional act and informed that violating the recognized boundaries of Islam is by no way acceptable. Meanwhile, the Qatari diplomat apologized and said that the program did not reflect the outlook of Qatar`s government.” Concerning Iran`s efforts for becoming a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and whether Iran tends to change the organization`s structure, he said that in case the need is felt for bringing up new proposals on revising the WTO structure to enable rendering more services to some of the world developing countries, Iranian officials will proceed in doing so. Asked about Iran`s approach towards defense agreement of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, he said, ”We will support any measure contributing to the withdrawal of foreign troops from the region, development of regional cooperation, convergence of the world countries as well as promotion of peace and stability in the Middle East.” About the recent visit of the Majlis speaker to Moscow and its outcome and the reason for calling off the expected meeting of the head of Russian State Duma with the speaker of the Iranian parliament, he said that it was required to make a choice between a visit to Tatarstan and the scheduled meeting and that the first option was selected. Turning to the visit of Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel to Moscow as a fruitful one, he said that major bilateral and regional issues as well as parliamentary collaboration were discussed during the tour. ”Besides, Bushehr power plant was high on the agenda and it was declared by Russia that the schedule for launching the operation of the plant will be followed up during the next visit of the Russian minister of energy to Tehran. Regarding the recent remarks of the US President George W. Bush and Foreign Secretary Condoleezza Rice referring to Iran as a serious threat to the region, Asefi noted that the country having trespassed the region from thousands of miles away and disturbed the tranquility of the regional states is the real threat. He referred to such remarks as a run-away and said that the US administration which has incurred great damage in the region, the most important being the loss of the Muslim public opinion and a great part of Western public public opinion is now helpless. In reply to a reporter, who referred to the law banning any doubt about `Holocaust` in some European states and asked whether the relevant remarks of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would affect the visit of Iranian officials to these countries, he said that similarly a lot of measures taken by Europeans are considered as crime in Iran. Asefi dismissed Europe`s attitude to account research on some subjects as a crime, given that it is in conflict with the freedom of thought. The spokesman underlined that one should rather look at the world in a different way. He pointed to any limits imposed on the Iranian officials for visiting foreign countries as an issue associated with the media and said, ”Even if this were the case, no official is interested in visiting those countries, while a counteraction is always possible.” Responding to another question whether Iran has prepared a particular agenda for the upcoming talks to ensure the success of the negotiations, Asefi said, ”We have drawn up good proposals and are prepared to bring them up at the upcoming talks.”
