Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, on Tuesday denied Fatah allegation that Hamas was involved in secret negotiations with Israel in Switzerland about establishment of a Palestinian state with temporary borders. Abu Zuhri described the statement by Fatah central committee member Saeb Erikat in this regard as “sheer lies”. He said the statement was not new and was previously voiced by PA chief and Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas on more than one occasion and Hamas refuted it. He explained that his movement had announced more than once that a number of its members were involved in talks with European officials in Switzerland to get acquainted with its political stands. What Erikat said that Switzerland had told the PA of a Hamas project about accepting a state with temporary borders was a sheer lie, he added. The spokesman asked the Swiss president to declare the truth as long as the PA had attributed this statement to her. He renewed his movement’s rejection of such a state, adding that it was never discussed in any of its institutions. Such lies would not succeed in covering up for Fatah’s political failure and Abbas’s renunciation of the right of return and cooperation with Israel against resistance, Abu Zuhri concluded.
