Iran’s first vice president says Syria will weather through the foreign-backed insurgency it has been grappled with in the past months and will end up stronger than before. Mohammad-Reza Rahimi said at a meeting with Syrian Oil Minister Said Maza Hanidi in Tehran on Wednesday: “Those who supposed the enemies could defeat Syria are disappointed now and the Syrian nation should look forward to a brilliant future.” Rahimi blamed Zionist regime and the United States for funding and training insurgents fighting the Syrian government, warning that Muslim nations will never forget the involvement of those countries fueling bloodshed in Syria. The Iranian official reiterated Tehran’s support for Syria in its battle against the insurgents, interpreting the country’s win as a “victory of freedom-seeking nations against Zionism and the US.” Hanidi, for his part, pointed out the hypocrisy on the part of insurgents and their sympathizers in proclaiming support for reform in Syria, recalling their continued attacks despite the government’s introduction of political and constitutional reforms early on.
