Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani says the European Parliament (EP) delegation's request to visit an Iranian prison is an obvious interference in Iran's judicial system. in a meeting with top judicial officials on Wednesday, Larijani stressed that Iran’s Judiciary would not allow any “foreign delegation or country to interfere” in the country’s judicial system. A group of EP members headed by chairwoman of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iran, Tarja Cronberg, was scheduled to make a six-day visit to Iran and meet with the Friendship Group of Iran’s Majlis (parliament). However, the EP delegation requested to meet two Iranian nationals, who have been sent to prison on charges of breaching Iran's national security, as a precondition for their visit. Larijani said: “How would the European Parliament allow itself to set precondition for visiting our country and announce that it intends to grant awards to people, who have been sentenced by Iran’s independent Judiciary.” “Isn’t this an unjustified and clear intervention against a sovereign state?” Recalling the US President Barack Obama’s failure to close the notorious Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba and the CIA-run secret jails in Europe, Larijani rebuked the West for its anti-Iran stance.
