The Iranian Foreign minister, Ali Akbar Salehi, has expressed concern over the further ethnic conflicts in Myanmar. In a telephone conversation with his Myanmar counterpart, “Wunna Maung Lwin”, Salehi expressed deep concern over the situation of Muslims in Myanmar after the recent ethnic clashes in the country. Earlier also, the Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson, Ramin Mehmanparast, emphasized on the necessity of resolving the issue in the country and called for the Myanmar government to find an immediate solution for the problem as well as protecting the primary rights of the Muslim residents. The Iranian foreign ministry also announced Iran’s readiness for helping the Myanmar government, aiming at finding a solution for the ethnic and religious conflicts. According to the figures published in the media, between 100 to 200 people have been killed in the recent ethnic clashes in Myanmar. Based on the United Nations statistics also more than 22 thousands of people in Myanmar, mostly Muslims, have been forced to evacuate their homes and nearly four thousands and 665 houses have been destroyed as a result of extremists’ crimes in the country. Having a Buddhist majority, the Myanmar government does not recognize the “Rohingya” Muslim minority as the citizens and has categorized them as illegal immigrants.
