Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said the rule of law is a prerequisite for social order, social interactions, justice, freedom, peace and lasting security, progress and the welfare of the masses, and thus special attention needs to be paid to the issue of the rule of law. President Ahmadinejad speaking on Monday at the rule of law conference at United Nations headquarters in New York, emphasized that lawmaking is sacrosanct , and that the essence of all legislation should be just, fair, equitable, and based on wisdom. In further remarks, Pres. Ahmadinejad said lawmakers should be true representatives of the people, they must represent the electorate, and that legislation should be fair, just and equitable, and that lawmakers must be aware and trustworthy individuals, they must be just and fair, efficient, law-abiding , they must not take sides, and they must defend the rights of the general public. Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president criticized those countries which have a right of veto within the UN Security Council, arguing that these countries have remained silent with regards to the Israeli regime’s deadly nuclear weapons arsenals, whereas at the same time these countries are trying to impede the scientific and technological development of independent nations.
