The `unconventional` claims by French President Jacques Chirac on the use of nuclear arms under the pretext of preventing terrorism are `unacceptable`, said an Iranian Foreign Ministry official here on Saturday. Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid-Reza Asefi said the French president had revealed the inherent intentions of nuclear powers in using this leverage for political games. Asefi regretted the ongoing approach for deterring common security threats in today`s world, saying, ”The bitter and unpleasant experience of the use of nuclear weapons in the world war had been so catastrophic that their re-application will not at all be acceptable or justifiable.” He said French president`s claims have doubled suspicions and made the world public opinion more fearful of all the countries possessing nuclear arms and making them accountable to offer clear and explicit answer to the world public opinion. ”We believe that man`s logic, religious beliefs and human values under no circumstances favor the proliferation and use of the weapons of mass destruction worldwide and the important question is that on what ground is the use of nuclear weapons prescribed for the world people under the pretext of campaign against terrorism,” added the official. Chirac had better exert pressure on Western leaders to remove in their terrorism campaign bid the deadly roots of discrimination, poverty and injustice in different parts of the world so that there will be no need for deterrence to wipe out the sinister phenomenon, he concluded. In a speech during a visit to northwestern France, where France`s nuclear submarines are stationed, Chirac said on Thursday France would be ready to carry out a targeted nuclear strike against any pro-terrorist state.
