Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Larijani said on Sunday that Iran welcomes talks with different countries to help remove any ambiguity about Iranian nuclear program. He told IRNA that the door is open for different countries to enter into negotiations with Iran on the national program to make sure that Iranian nuclear program is in line with the Safeguards Agreement of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Larijani said that Iran would make use all the diplomatic channels to enlighten world public opinion about the civilian purpose of Iranian nuclear program and have taken necessary steps in this respect. Asked to elaborate on research studies by Iranian scientists about the civilian application of nuclear energy, he said that Iran will never violate Safeguards Agreement of the UN nuclear watchdog and no violation has taken place so far. Responding to a question about his talks with IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei and whether a new agreement has been reached with director of the nuclear watchdog, he said that Iran has diversified cooperation with IAEA. ”Currently, inspectors of the UN nuclear watchdog are visiting Iran to monitor Iranian nuclear sites as per Safeguards Agreement of IAEA,” Larijani said. ”Iran has nothing to hide. Sometimes, the need arises to hold negotiations. Such consultations are taking place regularly. Iran sees its relations with the UN nuclear agency as `excellent`.” He dismissed language of threat or complacency being exercised by certain countries and said dialogue and cooperation are the best means to resolve dispute in international affairs. Larijani advised certain countries to follow dialogue and cooperation with Iran. he also mentioned Iran and Iraq are natural allies and have always stood by each other. ”We will continue to side with them (Iraqis) until the establishment of a broad-based and popular government,” Larijani told reporters after a meeting with senior Iraqi political-religious figure Moqtada Sadr. Larijani hailed Sadr as an active, dynamic and wise individual, representing Iraqi religious figures. He said Sadr was brought up in an important family in Iraq. After Iraq`s occupation, Sadr made intense efforts to launch a sound movement in Iraq and there is a good cooperation between him and various Iraqi Shiite groups. In view of his stances, ”We have high hope for Iraq having a powerful and popular government in the future to be able to settle Iraq`s security and economic problems.” For the Islamic Republic of Iran nothing is more important than having a secure neighbor with stable economic conditions, said the Iranian official, adding that in that case Iranian people can go to visit the religious sites in that country. Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani said he had held talks with Sadr on the establishment of a popular government as well as security in Iraq. Sadr for his part commented on unity among various Iraqi groups, saying, ”If the unity is further consolidated, Israel and the US will not be able to have constant presence in Iraq.” The American enemies have targeted neither oil nor other things in Iraq but Islamic thought, said Sadr, adding that to foil the plot of the occupiers, extensive cultural activities should be done. Top Iraqi Shiite religious figures, despite being numerous, are in the hearts of all Iraqis and all the Iraqi people have the duty to obey them, concluded Sadr.
