Deputy Foreign Minister Mehdi Mostafavi here Sunday called the Zionist regime a ”systematic violator of human rights” of Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon and Syria. Mostafavi made the remark at a meeting with accredited ambassadors to Tehran of member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) ahead of a two-day diplomatic conference on insignias that is to open in Geneva today. According to reports, the Israeli society known as the Magen David Adom, or Red Shield of David, is to sign a deal with the Palestinian Red Crescent in the conference in Geneva to secure acceptance of the red crystal, the emblem of a new international aid agency sought to be recognized alongside the Red Cross and Red Crescent. The agreement will pave the way for acceptance of the new emblem by the 192 countries that have signed the Geneva Convention on the conduct of warfare, according to the Swiss Foreign Ministry, which is hosting the conference. The red crystal, the emblem of a new international aid agency sought to be recognized, is a square emblazoned in one corner with a blank white interior and red borders. In the meeting, Mostafavi said adoption of the new emblem will pave the way for the Zionist state`s entry into the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He pointed to a recent resolution passed by a majority of OIC foreign ministers calling for cancellation of the Geneva conference due to its unfavorable time schedule and which advised that ”the Zionist regime should not be encouraged for its repeated violation of the human rights of nations.” The Iranian official voiced his country`s opposition to the Zionist regime`s latest move and called on all OIC states to collectively oppose adoption of the emblem. He said the door should not be opened for violators of human rights of Palestinians, Lebanese and Syrians to establish a dangerous precedent in international affairs.
