Iran is taking the media battle on its nuclear issue right to the heart of the European Union. In a 10-page brochure titled ”An Unnecessary Crisis,” the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the EU sets the record straight abut Iran`s nuclear program. ”Before the international community is led to another crisis of choice,” explains the booklet, ”it is imperative that the public knows all the facts and is empowered to make an informed and sober decision about an impending catastrophe.” The brochure is being distributed as a supplement by European Voice, a leading Brussels-based newspaper from The Economist group. The English-language weekly paper is widely read by European policymakers, officials, diplomats, think-tanks, parliamentarians and the media circle. ”In a region already suffering from upheaval and uncertainty, a crisis is being manufactured in which there will be no winner,” reads the introduction to the brochure. ”Worse still, the hysteria about the dangers of an alleged Iran nuclear weapons program rest solely and intentionally on misperception and outright lies.” The brochure concludes by calling on the EU-3 (France, Germany and the UK) ”to replace the course of confrontation with interaction and negotiation to reach understanding and agreement.”
